When clients first enquire about my pet photography sessions for their dog the first thing they always ask is what happens if he/she won't stay still or misbehaves. My answer is always the same to this question and that is to not worry about it. I have the four most unruly dogs on the planet so anything is an improvement to what I usually work with at home - trust me! That doesn't mean that there aren't steps you can take to ensure your dog portait session runs a little more smoothly though: Firstly, I always suggest taking them out for a run before we're due to meet to give them chance to let off a bit of steam before I start shooting. Secondly, Tennis balls are your other best friend; it's amazing how still even my wildest pooch will sit if I hold a tennis ball above my camera while shooting so we'll make sure we have one of those with us too. And finally, of course there's the treats that I'm sure you always have in your pocket anyway if need be.
We will of course take the lead from your dog and go at their pace for the photoshoot. If they're not wanting to sit or lie still for some beautiful fine-art protraits then we'll focus on them playing and intereacting with you for a while instead and swap styles when the time is right.
And while I predominantly photograph dogs, I am more than welcome to the idea of meeting other pets too! Simply send me a message and we can talk through ideas together.
